The Mindanao based Alcantara Group took home three silver trophies during the prestigious 53rd Anvil Awards – dubbed as the “Oscars of PR” in the Philippines – organized by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) and held recently at the Shangri-La at The Fort in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

The Anvils that symbolize excellence are bestowed on the best public relations programs and tools in individual categories set by the award-giving organization. A record number of entries numbering more than 450 vied for the Anvil Awards, from which finalists and winners were selected for 36 specific categories for programs and tools, as well as 8 special categories.

Two Silver Anvils went to Alsons Power – the Alcantara Group’s power generation unit – for winning entries under the categories of “Exhibits, Special Events and Milestones” and “PR Programs Directed at Specific Stakeholders (External).” These were for the successful joint groundbreaking and switch-on ceremonies of Alsons Power subsidiary Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC)’s baseload coal plant in Maasim, Sarangani.

“The 210-megawatt SEC plant in Sarangani is the biggest power investment in the SOCCSKSARGEN region, and this award underscores our company’s unwavering commitment to power up the economic growth and development of Mindanao,” affirmed Alsons Power and SEC executive vice president and CEO Tirso G. Santillan.

Rounding off the triple win is the Silver Anvil for the Alcantara Group’s aquaculture unit, Alsons Aquaculture Corporation, for its entry Making Fishtory: Taking Bangus to Premium Waters under the category of “Multimedia/Digital-Social Media Tools.”

By utilizing its website and Facebook page, Alsons Aquaculture strengthened the online presence of its Sarangani Bay brand and successfully elevated the stature of the ordinary “bangus” (milkfish) into an exciting and premium food item for millennials with discerning taste buds.
